Jason Christensen

Producer | Director | Project Manager

All video content has a truth behind it, its own verisimilitude.

As a creative producer my job is to figure out what makes a video believable and human—then build the vision and production around that.

The keyword there is vision. When I craft the story, produce the shoot, direct the talent, and edit the video I am inherently protecting and reinforcing the truth of what’s being created.

Not everything I make is documentary, commercial, or corporate. Not everything is literal. Not everything is real.

    But everything should feel true.

A person should feel like a person. A place should feel like a place. A joke should feel earned. A story should feel inevitable. Any piece of content I create should feel undeniable.

Verisimilitude is my pursuit of that feeling.

    How I produce

    1. 01

      Question the premise

Before building a production around an idea, I want to understand whether it's actually the right idea.

    2. 02

      Keep it human

What's specific, surprising, funny, uncomfortable, beautiful, or genuinely interesting about the content?

    3. 03

      Build around it

Once we know what matters, the logistics become creative decisions: who we need, where we go, what we shoot, what graphics we need, and how we spend the time and money.

    4. 04

      Protect it

Productions change. Schedules collapse. Scripts evolve. The edit reveals things nobody expected. My goal is to keep finding the truth of the piece through all of those changes.

    5. 05

      Know when to stop

Sometimes the best creative decision is knowing when something is already working.

      Yes, I’m a real person

Jason Christensen on a Panasonic field monitor during an interview shoot

I got my start in the industry just like everyone else: making really terrible music videos.

Before that, I made my friends re-enact scenes from Star Wars and I’d film them on whatever camera I had access to at the time. And before that? I learned to absorb and understand the world visually, enhancing the visuals in my mind with the aid of the written word at my side.

Since I can remember, I’ve practiced finding the truth, or the feeling of it, in whatever I watched and understanding the vision of it all.

And now? I’m a New York City–based producer, director, and writer that works across the globe. My work spans streaming platforms, commercials, branded, social, documentary, broadcast, and corporate content.

So if you’re looking for somebody that’s interviewed A-list celebrities and high profile CEOs, knows what “KPI” means, can write dialogue and voice over, and knows how to run a set—I’m your person.

Ok, now for the fun stuff:

      • I once appeared on an episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

      • In my spare time, I’m a trading card player and collector. (I don’t scalp, I promise.)

      • I own the only copy of Man of Steel #1 signed by Henry Cavill.

      • Depending on the day, I could either pass for a more handsome Nicolas Cage or a less attractive Josh Radnor.

      • Bela Lugosi is my favorite actor of all time.

      • I was born and raised in New York City, but have no discernible accent.

      • I’m unusually good at Mario Kart.

      • U.S. history aficionado.

      • Will re-watch scenes from movies over and over just to listen to the sound mix.

      • Can recite the lyrics to most Hall & Oates songs.

      • I can wiggle my ears.

      Let's make something real.
